The Chocolate Fetish…a reflection

Well…Ramona sent us chocolates…not just any chocolates, truffles from The Chocolate Fetish.

We devoured, we raved, no truffle was left uneaten. So without further ado I give you our reviews and opinions:

Velvet Sin: Oh my…that little bugger was more or less a chocolate-gasm. I was making all sorts of happy noises eating that critter. Just lots of dark chocolate goodness and more chocolate goodness. *Should not be eaten in public. (15 of 10)

French Kiss: The milk chocolate version of the Velvet Sin. Yummy, creamy…lovely with a dish of strawberries nearby. (9 of 10)

Blossom: Kind of strange…while having complex tastes and a wonderful creamyness, it’s really not my personal favorite. The purple flower thing on the top is rather cute. This was the only one to really upset my stomach. (3 of 10)

Grand Marnier: The chocolate orange in bite size but better. This one was wonderful, of course I enjoy a chocolate orange and having the creamy ganache filled with dark chocolate and orange flavor was beyond lovely. (8.5 of 10)

High Tea: Pairs tea with chocolate…very interesting. The tea is not overpowering, very subtle but an interesting pairing. Although I prefer others to this one, I would certainly enjoy having one in an assorted box. Will have to try with a hot tea sometime. (7 of 10)

Wine and Roses: OMG yummay! I had no idea that red wine and chocolate could pair so well. This was really exceptional, something I look forward to trying again when I can have the whole thing to myself. (9.5 of 10)

Dragon’s Kiss: I love the name of this…dark chocolate paired with Wasabi. I was really nervous about trying this truffle. I like both components individually, but together just sounded kind of weird. It ended up being rather good. The first taste is the chocolate and then a nice subtle tingle of the wasabi. Not at all over powering. Not an everyday truffle but a great treat. (7 of 10)

Mocha Magic: Coffee and Chocolate…life is good (and it’s cheaper than prozac). I highly recommend this one. There are some very fine espresso grounds in the ganache but not at all detracting from the creamyness. The flavors are well balanced and it reminds me of how I like to make Mocha drinks…heavy on the chocolate and espresso, light on the milk. (8 of 10)

Champagne: The gold dust on the top is really wonderful to look at, fun to lick off too. The flavor of champagne is very light, just popping on your toungue every so slightly. This is definately a truffle you would want to eat either first or as a stand alone as the flavors are delicate. If nothing else, this is a pretty thing to look at. (7.5 of 10)

Ancient Pleasures: Chocolate and Chile…one of the original chocolate combinations and certainly a winner! The wonderful dark chocolate is what strikes you first then the delightful tingle of cayenne pepper. Their description was very acurate, my senses were in heaven smoldering in chile delight. It’s wonderful…I wonder what a hot variety would entail (perhaps the fire brigade should be standing by lest my hair catch on fire). (10 of 10)

  1. What an excellent review!! Thank you very much for all the descriptions – I was pondering when I might assume that you’d finished them and I could start asking for opinions.

Sorry the Blossom flavor didn’t agree with you. But it sounds like it’s the only one – I guess that’s the purpose of an assortment. I should print this out so I’ll know what to get you (and get myself) if/when there’s another order placed.

And, I’d like to reiterate, for the praise of the store, that I ordered about three weeks before Valentines Day (they mentioned that they were beginning to get swamed with Valentines Day orders). I told them there was no rush on delivery – so they got it there in four days. They were a pleasure to order from, very helpful on the phone, and delivered fast.

    I suppose I should be telling them that :-}

    Well.

Sounds like you enjoyed them. I am very glad.

  2. I think i will have the velvet sin…. and the french kiss… 🙂
    Sounds like an interesting asortment.

  3. I am in agreement with Christina’s views. The velvet sin was the first and last of our samples. We tried it first as it had such high reviews coming to us… and we saved the second one for last to ensure our last one would be great. It was; however, I will say that these are not chocolates you want to let sitting around for too long. I would follow the Chocolate Fetish’s ‘eat in 10 days time’ advice.
