Well.   I’ve waited days and days to see a new post, so that “Grailing .. bad news” isn’t the first thing I see when I load the page.
Guess I’ll just have to post it myself.
So let’s see.   The carry case for my telescope finally arrived. As much as I enjoyed getting the telescope set up, I am looking forward to breaking it down into the proper porting pieces.  It’s a wonderful bag. I can proudly take my place with all the other beginning amateur astronomers.   I have a fine telescope.
And yes, Saturn is way cool to look at. But I am going to have to get some more eyepieces.
Ordered stuff from e-bay (it’s my second order).  Think it should arrive soon; it was theoretically shipped Monday. Will leave my glowing seller feedback when it arrives.
Donated three formal dresses to the Cinderella project here in Raleigh.  They gather formals and have a big party thing where qualifying girls get to come in and try stuff on and find a dress they like for the prom.  All free.  Gave them the used-to-be matching shoes, too, though I hestiated on the shoes. They really aren’t the best .. but perhaps they will find some use.
Like FreeCycle, I liked donating to the Cinderella Project more than I would have enjoyed simply donating to Goodwill. Â Â Though I have a couple of boxes to take in there, too.
Weekend is coming. Plan to make all those donation trips on Saturday. I’m also planning to shuffle my fish around.  One has been in the kitchen tank, the other has been upstairs. I think they should switch for a while.  I might get a fancy guppy to put in the tank with the frog.  I just feel like it must get boring, sitting in a tank all day. Perhaps the frog and guppy won’t speak the same language, but it will be something.  Something is less boring than nothing.   Or I might get a second frog. But I think it would be important to have two frogs of the same size, and I don’t know if I can judge which store frogs are the same size as my frog at home.  Which is why I generally come back to the guppy idea.  And I like guppies. They are colorful.
I got a new Tolkien book for myself. Haven’t read it yet – so many books from the library, and they have due dates.  But it is so pleasant to have a Tolkien book waiting for me.
Was talking to Mom about Hawaii, trying to be motivational and all that.  Then suddenly it dawned on me – I’d be going too.  I’d probably have to wear a swimsuit. In public.  And I only have a year to become posterially fabulous.   So now I have a goal, and I wasn’t even looking for one.  Should I be thankful or vexed?? 😉
Did you guys know Ann now has an employee in her business? Getting very official. The new hire is only for a few hours in the middle of the day, and Ann is amusingly managerial about how slow they are, but with all that I was greatly impressed.  An employee. So many orders Ann and David can’t keep up with the business on their own.
I’m going to start saying only nice things about my good and clever friend, Ann.
Well, I guess I’ll wind it down now. Â I really didn’t have anything to say, just putting something new up there.
what business does ann run? I didn’t know she had a business..
frog? what frog? pics?
fish are fun. want a 20 gallon tank? Err.. not sure about how to ship it though.
if you get guppies you must post pictures.
yeah all the stuff chris said. fire bellied frogs are cool 🙂
what about some small chiclids? (i think chiclet gum every time i see that) our fish store has a lovely assortment and i look at them often thinking…oh if only i had a freshwater tank…but right now we’re going good with the one we have.
i should tell you that i was soooo going to make a post today. i couldn’t remember my password as i was not on my laptop. a rather silly one. probably more fitted for the crabby page, which i haven’t updated in eons.
oh you’re griping about body. HA! HA! you do not have to physically support another being. you are “allowed” to lose weight and eat whatever you want. you can exercise hard if you want to. your body isn’t doing all sorts of strange and unusual things and people call it “normal.” i’ll let you borrow crabby for a while 😉 (it’s not that terrible really. i just miss some of the things i used to be able to do and can’t now and/or didn’t take advantage of then) so i guess what i am saying is…get out there and do it! take lots of pictures in Hawaii (someday…)
a frog……. i have 2 little mini aquariums with nothing in them. I had not thought about a non-fish creature…….. maybe a little turtle that will never become a big turtle. i wonder what non-fish would be the hardiest.
chris, how about a frog in your 20 gal aquarium?

you can get land frogs and aquatic frogs…some do make noise though if that is a factor. a frog is considered exotic by most apts…they have enough fits with a fish tank
you know ramona….a few months before Hawaii…
you can get a Tattoo!!! Maybe a bird of paradise or something really pretty??
hummm????? it doesn’t hurt that much really. and i say a few months so it will be healed from the initial ink and any follow up…and not be scaly, itchy, or not able to get in the ocean
I’d second that idea.
Oh, no, no – I can get a tatoo IN Hawaii!!
Good plan!
Because then, oh so sorry, couldn’t go swimming in the huge scary ocean with the sharks and the baraccuda and pirannahs and lionfish and other things that eat you and come up into your swimming pools and large bathtubs if they get a taste and want more.
Besides, I’ll be on such good drugs for the plane ride over (do you realize Hawaii is an island? That you have to fly there? Over the ocean, which is large and deep and non-condusive to breathing?) that if I get off the plane and head to a tattoo parlor, I won’t feel a thing … They could put a 5 color bird of paradise on my eyelids and I’d be just peachy.
Would probably not be so peachy the next day …. maybe I’ll skip the eyelids.
And my tank is 2 gallons. African Dwarf Frog.
Got him because the pet store person said Bettas didn’t register frogs as competitors and therefore coexist. That worked .. sort of. When my goldfish died and I had three tanks and I split everyone up. So the frog is alone. Which is better than living with a mean betta. But I would like him to live with a friendly guppy.
Ann’s store… mostly, what is keeping them busy (Ann and her employee) is the custom embroidery. Hats and tshirts and bags and such. They invested in a 6 at once industrial embroidery machine, and they have lots of customers.
But there are other irons in the fire at the store, also known as the things they tried before the embroidery took off for them.
The store page, very minimal, is at http://www.fordcraftsmanstudios.com/
The ebay page, very interesting, is at http://stores.ebay.com/Ford-Craftsman-Studios
I will be going with Ann and her daughter and husband and sister to sell at Breyerfest, which we’ve been going to as spectators for a few years now. Ann got a good room in the convention hotel (good as in good for sales, not as in having to do with sleep or quiet or resting or anything amusing like that) and we are going to be vendors. Well, they are going to be vendors. I’m going to be a gopher.
oh neat….froggie!!!
I would actually suggest not getting a tat in hawaii unless you plan on staying for a while. many times you will need a bit of touch up here and there after the initial healing is done, even on my line design there were a few places that needed some love. the shop you get it done at will do it as part of cost if they are any good…and you want the same artist doing it.
drugs on the flight? oh man. i didn’t know you had concerns on flights, but i do understand. when i flew overseas i think i held my breath from New York to Great Britain. my worst moment is take off, seriously…hate it, could do without it. i didn’t even get sick until being off the plane for a few hours (that is a period of my life I would prefer not to relive) but that said…it really is not that bad. they will feed you and show you a movie with the lights out. (Euro flights get two movies, hawaii, i would suspect gets at least one) They are actually good movies. On my flight which was lets see…2001 we had Chocolat, The Family Man, Miss Congeniality and something I can’t remember (bc I was sleeping). All of them I hadn’t seen. Something to think about. I also contend it is worth the extra for 1st/ Business class just for the leg room.
My comment regarding Ann is flagged as awaiting moderation. It includes links.
writing this in case my Ann set was going unnoticed. 🙂
Ramona, appreciate the links for ann…
I read online about frogs, including the African Dwarf, i think… some kind of drawf. The 2 sites where i read about them wanted me to start with a 20 gal aquarium, so i decided frogs needed too much space.
Same with turtles…. Though for a happy turtle, i think 20 gal would be necessary unless he was (and stayed) a very small turtle.
So I am back thinking about frogs. Let me know how the fish companion in a 2 gal tank works out… Do you have a filtration system? A light?
I have a light and an air pump. There is no filter.
There would be temperature variation – some of the other mellow species don’t do well with that. And there’s no filter; some others don’t do well with that.
I didn’t get a fish this weekend. Still thinking about it (and they didn’t have a good selection). But if I do, I’ll let you know how it goes.
And maybe try to take pictures. Though I never thought of these fish as photo worthy; they’re not nearly as interesting as Chris’s fish.
for those that might be interested: we do have a 20 gallon tank that is isn’t being used right now. Would be great for a frog tank! Includes basic light! And a filter, but that filter would be good for a fish tank more than a frog tank; it sits high in the tank. Unless a frog needs lots of water/ wouldn’t mind a waterfall in the tank.
are you offering your tank? hmmmmmmmm perhaps it is just because i have been reading about frogs and turtles, but right now i do want one…… a complex branch of wood for climbing on, a pool for swimming in, a cave for hiding in, and a small creature to watch is an attractive picture right now. I wonder if i would be a good caretaker for a for a frog or turlte and where i would keep the aquarium. And i wonder if frogs or turtles have a smell. Remembering the smell is the only thining that keeps me from getting a gerbil. A gerbil would be happy and safe in a 20 gal aquarium.
