We are moving

Well, it’s official.  Kevin and I are moving to Fort Collins, Colorado.

Huge – HUGE – transition for both of us, I’m still getting my mind wrapped around the topic.   But thought I’d let everyone know the latest.

We may be moving in as few as three weeks.   (!!!)  I do not know what sort of job opportunities I might have.  There is a USGS office in Fort Collins, but as of now I’m not sure how or if I’ll be able to transfer.

Kevin will be working as a Senior Technical Staff member for AMD.  It is a tremendous position for him – they are expecting a lot, and I’m sure he’ll deliver.

  1. wow… Colorado… You will probably love it there. You will get to ski. 🙂

Actually you may be in NC while Kevin moves in 3 weeks. It takes a while to sell a house.

    So many changes………

  2. We have a realtor (contingent on company approval) – the same person who sold us our house. She says that we should move out, move on, and she’ll showcase the empty house.

She has some minor fluff pieces (small furniture, silk plants, pretty rugs, etc.) that she uses to stage empty houses. And I think the house will look better empty than with our furniture in it.

But regardless, there’s a lot of cleaning I want to do. And there’s a lot of stuff I need to finish at work – so I’m pulled in two directions, one to put in long hours at work and one to put in long hours at home.

I hope to love it there. I don’t know about the skiing….

  3. WOW! So many things pop into my head at once… let’s see if I can put a few of them down…

    – oooo…colorado! nice and cool and Christina and I are going to be so very wanting to come visit. She loved skiing when she’s been there, maybe we’ll have an opportunity to try some more skiing. (even if we have to come visit, then drive a while to find said skiiing)

    – .. AMD? Does this mean I might get family deals? You know I run AMD systems around here. (well, when my $*# motherboard isn’t dead anyway..)

    – I know you’ll be able to find another job. Staying with USGS would be cool, if it can be managed.

    – Oh, and you know there is an AMD branch down here in Austin…. : -P

  4. wow! big change…and a big stresser I know.
I think you guys would enjoy Colorado for all it’s fun recreation stuff.

Aleah says she would love to come visit when she gets a bit bigger.

keeping it short for now…more later

  5. Marvelous.

Fort Collins is about an hour out of Estes Park, which is a tourist destination of note. It’s also about 2 hours from Steamboat Springs, which Kevin says is a skiing destination – http://www.steamboat.com/.

I’m so glad to have the promise of visitors. Everyone is welcome all the time, even when there isn’t snow.

Kevin says yes, he thinks there is a discount on AMD products. We certainly know that we could get a discount on the Live Strong laptop.

This is a new design center for AMD. If this design center doesn’t pan out, they’ll have to shuffle people to their other design centers, in Boston or Austin. Kevin does know many people in the company who worked with him at Motorola – including the person who will be his supervisor.

  6. quote: “Kevin says yes, he thinks there is a discount on AMD products. We certainly know that we could get a discount on the Live Strong laptop.”

Kevin does know he’s my favorite brother-in-law, right? 😛

One of these days I’m going to fix my pc. I’ll probably come asking around then. (unless ya’ll would prefer not to; I’d live with it)

Christina says that living in Austin would be much better than living in Boston for two reasons:

Traffic in Austin is so much better than Boston

You could buy a mansion in Austin or a hut in Boston. (and that’s a scary thought…)
