Recon mission for Kevin

(and Ramona, if she cares to accept)

We were at Central Market tonight to pick up a few “treats.” Specifically some apple juice that I like and some Mother’s Milk tea. Chris decided to pick up a 6 pack of Saint Arnold Christmas Ale and a bit of New Belgium 1554 (a dark ale). The 1554 is rather nice…dark, chocolately, nice mouth feel, kind of between Saint Arnold Winter Stout and Guinness. We got to looking on the box the 1554 came in and noticed their blurb on the bottom for their brewery tours.
Guess where they are???

Fort Collins!!!

500 Linden St. to be exact… tours are Monday – Saturday 10-6

Interested and going and reporting back to us on what it’s like??

  1. Oh, heavens; Fort Collins is absolutely STIFF with breweries, micro and otherwise.

OK, here’s the phone book listings – tracks pretty well with the one online search I did:
    CooperSmith’s Pub – http://www.coopersmithspub.com
    Fort Collins Brewery – http://www.fortcollinsbrewery.com
New Belgium Brewing Company – http://www.newbelgium.com
    Odell Brewing Company – http://www.odellbrewing.com
    or if you want traditional
    Anheuser-Busch Brewing Co. – http://www.budweisertours.com
    (yes, they’re in Fort Collins)

Or you can just go to the page I went to – http://www.visitftcollins.com/attractions/. Select Breweries and Pubs.

I’m assuming the one you got came from the New Belgium Brewing Company. Yeah, their website lists the 1554 Brussels Style Black Ale. Their big product – the one on all the trucks wandering around Fort Collins – is the Fat Tire. And yes, I know where Linden Street is – I’ve even been on it.

Now the one that had my boss interested was the Fort Collin’s Brewery’s Pomegranate Wheat, though he was certainly willing to try their Chocolate Stout (in season).

So, hey, maybe there’s something else to come visit me for! Stay for a week and do a pub tour a day!

But – and here’s my fun part – why don’t you go check out the website for our dairy? Just got our first milk delivery Tuesday – going to be checking out the cheeses in short order.

  2. dairy….that’s not fair!
that’s also really, really cool. i am looking forward to being able to enjoy more dairy over the next few months as Aleah tolerates it better. ice cream, yogurt, and too much cheese are major no-nos at the moment unfortunately.

Do you actually have a milkman/woman??

i had no idea there were so many breweries, but yes the New Belgium Brewing company is the one we referred to.

  3. Yes, we have an actual milk-person 🙂

We have a cooler on the doorstep, and a person comes here once or twice a week and fills it with our ‘standing order.’ We have till 11am the day of the delivery to change the standing order. It’s so awesome.

As far as breweries, Kevin pointed out that it’s not just Busch, but Coors also has a place-with-tours in Golden. I think it’s Coors. Anyway, that’s a whole hour away – so far, so far.

Think you might come visit us sometime? And will the brewery tours be before or after the skiing? Or is this a summer visit/winter visit sort of thing?

  4. You make me jealous. 😀

And Chocolate Stout? mmm… those can be good. Mail me some? 😉 (remember to pack tight and declare it as something other than beer at the post office!)

not that I’m advocating anything bad or anything. Really.

I think you’ll have Dad visiting soon for this: true fresh milk.

As for visiting, I’d prefer to make it a winter visit, but I fear driving in snow. Perhaps a summer visit would be better, if it’s nice and cool there in summer months…
