Start of the Fishtank Restock

A while back our fishtank overheated.  When Christina checked the tank around noon and found the temp was up at 98 degrees; the normal temp is closer to 78.  Anyway, we’re getting to the point of restocking the tank.  The first addition was a few new rocks from a friend’s tank that are covered in soft coral.  Unfortunately, they have yet to really start showing themselves.  So pics aren’t really that interesting.

However, today we bought a new fish.  The green mandarin goby:

Next week we’re going to hit up the year end sale. (30% 0ff nearly all stock, and a few specials like a 90 gallon tank for $200 <= super price)  We’ll be after some snails, some crabs, and maybe a shrimp.

  1. oooohhh.

    He is very lovely.

I was sorry to hear about the loss of all your other fishes. I’m glad that it’s getting healthy again – hope those corals are as lovely as the goby.

  2. now we have to get him to eat fish food. This kind of goby is known for hunting natrual stuff in the tank more than eating fish food. Our fish was interested in food in the fish store, so we should have an easier time.

He does look a bit on the thin side though, so we’re going to put in some special ‘restock natural tiny wildlife’ stuff in the tank to make sure he’s healthy.

  3. He’s doing well. We added some live food to the tank that should start colonies and start reproducing. We’ve seen him picking around the rocks eating… something. Given that the live food is small enough that you can’t really see it in the tank, I’m sure he’s eating the stuff we added. Ok, you can see it under the right circumstance: along certain parts of the glass, or at night with an attention grabbing flashlight.

There are a few other tricks we have yet to employ to increase the population of live food in the tank too. We’ll probably do some extra stuff this weekend when we clean up the tank a bit.
