There really is a site for everything

Ok, this is really just an excuse to put a link up here as I won’t remember it later, but I’m still amazed that someone actually does… pencil reviews. I shouldn’t be – there seems to be a site on the internet for everything.

Anyway, I’m mostly putting this up here to remind myself about it later. I’ve always wanted to know more about the different types of pencil lead and this guy seems to be a good source to learn.

  1. And the corollary is – there’s an audience for every site.

I agree; I am amazed that someone has a site doing pencil reviews. I am also amazed at the sentence “I’ve always wanted to know more about the different types of pencil lead”.

In a good way, of course. I think this falls under the heading of “quirky”.

But I’m imagining saying that exact line at cocktail parties. The looks on everyone else’s faces are a fun little mental image.

  2. It is just my latent artsy side coming out.

Or my ‘tactile feel’ side. The difference between writing with a 4H pencil and a 4B pencil is amazing. (and before I read that site, I’d have no clue what I just said.)

Last, it would totally depend on the party. Some people we know would look at me funny; others would probably go off on more esoteric topics around pencils.

  3. Now, I am a total pen snob. Several times I’ve vowed to buy pens until I find “the” pen … and actually, this last time, I found them. Very basic – but just the right amount of ink flow, line width, color intensity, paper glide, grip width …

You find me the site that does ball point pen reviews, and I’ll be their audience .. 🙂

But I don’t use pencils that much anymore, and am satisfied by the 5mm mechanical version. Though some leads have scratchy bits. Those are irritating.

  4. Pens were also part of my hunt.

I haven’t really done a lot of reading on either, but…

Pen Addict – Seems to have an active audience, which I like. Also love their tagline.

Pen Review – I get a more ‘strict’ feel from their site, though they do have average ratings based on user reviews. If only I saw more users actually there…

My current favorite pen is the Pilot Razor Point (liquid ink marker pen). I’ve got a set of them – 8 colors – that work well for my uses.
