Seven Falls

Had a friend visiting (Joseph Neafie). Having a visitor means going to those places you always mean to go visit. So we went to Seven Falls. Well, we also went to Horsetooth Rock, so there are a few photos of there too.

Horsetooth Rock & Seven Falls

What I hadn’t known, until looking up directions on the website, is that the author Helen Hunt Jackson had been buried above Seven Falls. Since moved, but there’s a big monument. Ms. Jackson wrote “Ramona”, so it was an absolute must visit after finding that out.

  1. What a beautiful Fall…. how funny that they gave each section a different name, but calling it Seven Falls makes it all ok.

Great pictures. Great picture of Horsetooth and the Falls. I also like the shots of Ramona, Ramona, and Ramona. I think you should always bring someone along so you can have pictures of you and Kevin together. The one with the stream in the background is good.

Impressive staircase too. How many steps?

  2. The main staircase is 224 steps in two sections. There’s also a long staircase to the observation platform.

    http://www.sevenfalls.com/home/index.cfm … and here’s the postcard photo

The top 3 falls (Ramona, Feather, Bridal Veil) are distinctly separated waterfalls.

Short Falls is maybe 3 feet tall. Counting it as a waterfall is almost cheating.

And the last three (Hull, Weimer, Hill) – an impartial observer not figuring out naming rights or marketing possibilities would call those one waterfall.

But Seven Falls does have a nice ring to it.

The USGS guidebook has some really nice photos and history. It includes a photo of the Pillars of Hercules. You can’t get to anywhere to take a photo of them that would do them justice, and there were no postcards and almost no mention on the website. Shame. One rock is 790 feet tall, the other is 940 feet – and it’s only 41 feet between the two of them. This is the road you drive to get into the Seven Falls park.

And they have no photos. Mystifying.
