Creative Lego Building

Here’s two picture of a lego ship I put together while playing with Donavan. I was rather happy with how the ship came out. Donavan kept it together for a while (weeks?) and eventually re-built his own version.

Soon we will be buying a Lego ship from the Star Wars collection. I believe it’ll be a Star Destroyer – which isn’t a cheap set, but it’s the cheapest set they have that comes with a Darth Vader mini figure. I can’t believe that was _not_ done on purpose. I hope to get some pictures of that one all assembled, before it falls prey to the unavoidable destruction of all lego craft.

Quick Crop Post

I was fiddling with a picture and cropped out quite a few things and ended with this. I don’t think it’s one that I’d get printed or anything, but…. well, it is a new post. At least there is that.

Words With Friends and The Seemingly Literate

I have a confession to make.

I know quite a few words. I enjoy fiction, so I often see words that are somewhat made up. Especially for places.

Sometimes those made up places are really words for things that are real in a foreign language, or some latin root word that is still valid, or just a word that’s hardly used.

I also get fixated on a word, real or otherwise, and can’t quite un-see it. No, brain, Dudez is not an acceptable word. Even if the Z would be on a triple word score. Zed? Nope. Zoom would work, if only I had another O. And if that “M” on the board wouldn’t also mean I’d make the word OE, which I’m fairly certain isn’t a word. Oh.. um, no, Dudez is not a word. Come on brain. Sigh. No, Zgeferm isn’t a word either. 200+ points would be awesome though. Gah! Again, brain, Dudez is *not* a word.

The fastest way to get a stuck word out of my head is to place the tiles and hit “Play” and accept that indeed, Dudez is not a word. This helps cement the idea somehow and I get to move on, usually to play “PET” or “HI”.

That’s actually one of the greatest things about the game. Throwing a word out there that is terribly misspelled, totally not allowed ( “HOC” should be allowed, I say. It’s a real word!), or terribly nonexistent… well, nobody but me and the Words With Friends servers know anything about it.

Anyway, I often try words that I know aren’t right. Or at least that I’m fairly certain are rooted in a word that was made up in some fantasy book.

But hey, sometimes…. just sometimes, it actually works.

Ramona, I’m so sorry – I don’t know where the word came from. Learn something new every day!

Praxis. Really??

Praxes: Practical application or exercise of a branch of learning. / Habitual or established practice; custom.

X on the Triple Letter, P on the Triple Word. I… I … I don’t think I’ll do this good ever again. At least, not on purpose.

White Rocks

I took this one thinking about background images. Maybe it’s a bit too white for a background. Printed poster on a dark wall maybe?

Movies being moved on

I’d mentioned that Christina and I have gone through our DVD movies. There are a number of movies that we’ve watched once, put on a shelf, and it has been sitting there ever since.

We plan on moving these on to HalfPrice in the nearish future. Before we do that, I thought I’d offer up the list here. If there is anything here that you’d like to snag, I’d be happy to set it aside for you.

Difference of Focus

Here is two takes on the same photo. The basic difference is where to put the focus.

Curious what ya’ll might think makes the more interesting version.

I’m on a bit of a photography bender – going through and reorganizing pictures, moving photos from previous years off the laptop, and trying to get some organizing done. Expect more photos showing up here, and possibly some other random images.

These two shots are new though; took them Tuesday, when I really wanted to go find some higher ground to get a picture of distant (and awesome) storms. Kids didn’t want to go – there was a movie to finish – and I had to make due with finding something else interesting to picture between the house and the mailbox.

Here is another picture from a while back that I enjoy.

I’m not sure if anyone else would like this one or not; I am interested in feedback in the “yeah, nice shot” or “I guess you had to be there?” or whatever variety you care to leave.

Natural fly repellent

Talking to Carrie…  She is going to visit Pat who warned her that he is plagued by Yellow flies and No-see-ums.  She went on a quest for a chemical-free insect repellent and found this one.  Now this one is specifically for flies and our problem is mosquitoes but I still find it interesting.  When I was looking for people outside the site who might have something to say about it I found a youtube video review of their soaps that made me curious about their other soaps as well.  Apparently they smell wonderful.

So, for those of us who like natural soaps, I offer this site: http://www.blackberrycreeksoaps.com/handmade-natural-soap/yellow-flies-repellent-soap.html

And if you are interested in the video review I mentioned: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edcZJzdqPF0
