cakes

I was flipping thru the channels on the television today and ran across a show called bake, decorate, celebrate, #108.  I did not have a chance.  It caught me the first moment i saw it.  They have a website….  check out show # 108.  I have to try making those fondant flowers……  I just hope they taste terrible.

  1. That is a fascinating site. One of the tips I’m absolutely going to try – look at show 111 and their tip with raspberries. 104, the cupcakes; 107, the quick tips; 203, I want to make that cheesecake.

    Sigh.

Why did you show us this page?

  2. That site is terrible isn’t it…. The cake with the rasberries so pretty. You would need a cake plate like the one they show, though, to make it as perfect. I notice the cheesecake you want has rasberries and chocolate… do you especially like rasberries?

I bought fondant and some tools. Unfortunately the fondant i bought tastes very good. They had 3 brands at the store. One was the best price, one was the best taste, and one was the best known brand. Naturally I bought the best taste. I should have asked which of the 3 tasted worst. 🙂

I asked about the rolling pin they used on the show and was shown the one you can buy and the one they use at the store. Theirs is made of pvc pipe. We have quite a bit of pvc scrap so we are going with that. I will scrub it with soap and the fine cleanser I use on stainless and then wash it in the dishwasher. It is new pvc. I think I will feel quite comfortable using it once it is thoroughly cleaned. Maybe i will boil it, too.

I go in there and play with the fondant every once in a while. I have discovered that i can make a 4 sided snake that twists into an interesting coil. I just decided to take my play piece and squash it out to the recommended 1/8 inch and let it dry. It is supposed to take 2 days. I wonder if it will, as humid as it is. Perhaps in the house with the ac cutting the humidity it will be fine. I am curious about how it will taste and how hard it will be once it is dry.

I am eager to play with my new toys. All i need is the plastic rolling pin, split pvc so i have a curved surface to let it dry, and a new sponge. I forgot to buy the recommended Wilton sponge, but i think any thick soft flat sided sponge should work. I intend to wrap it in plastic wrap before I use it anyway. I am going to check at walmart when i swim.

I am not sure why I am doing this. It is not a good time for me to be baking sweets but it is new and fun and Luke is encouraging me. (He wants to take my efforts to work. He has been pestering me to bake for work for a while.)

I wonder if i have a butterfly cookie cutter… if i do i am afraid it will be too large….. I was looking at pictures of cupcakes online and saw one with a butterfly perched on a cupcake. Very appealing… Would be easy to make with the fondant.

Oh! I bet i could press the fondant into the candy molds! That would be interesting.

    🙂 I love new toys.

  3. first off it’s raspberries. i love raspberries.

second…i hate that you put that link up there. no REALLY I do (it’s now bookmarked, darn you). i don’t need sweets and right now i cannot control myself with them. see the two demolished pans of brownies and 2 loaves of banana bread (chris and i ate each loaf within 24 hours, hangs head)

third…yeah probably not the best time to be baking but i always enjoy doing the baking and love it when chris takes the spoils to work (i get the fun and the temptation leaves-thank goodness).

fourth…i was thinking about the fondant…gawd it’s pretty. but i was also thinking about the mice you made a few years ago and how luke wanted “cheese” for the mice to live on. how hard would it be to do similar and color your fondant yellow then drape over the cake piece? perhaps make a large cake with lots of mice on the top. that would be too cute.

  4. ok raspberries…… (note to self – use spell check)

The mice would be cute running around on a cake but i will probably be making individual “cheese wedges” again if we do that because he likes to give things to individuals. He is not content to just set a cake on the break table.

They talk about petit fours… That would be the way to make the cheese wedges.

And i do apologize for the site…… Believe me it was never my intention to get caught up in this. Much as i like it, a part of me wishes i had not seen that show and gotten hooked.
