thoughts on the new design

yes, it is very new. And very different.

I like the new font and the new way the author & date are displayed.

I like the Wishlists tab and pull down list. We should think of some new tabs. Was recently reminded of the recipe idea … I should fill that in. I think it would make a decent tab. But at the moment I haven’t put anything in there. 🙂

I’m not entirely sure about the monochromatic scheme. I’m sure I’ll get used it it, but it will take some getting used to.

And the South Park avatar … we should all get one 🙂 We should fill up the whole line with our own little selves. You could solicit volunteers to make them for everyone .. I volunteer 🙂 This is the site I know about – http://www.southparkstudios.com/fans/avatar/.

Are there any other changes in the wings? Anything I neglected to comment on?

  1. I like the new look. I played with creating an aviator, but think I would rather make a little guy for me. I like the idea of having a line of us across the page.

  2. You didn’t miss anything.

The default look is just… .well, you can always tell when a wordpress install is either brand new or run by someone that doesn’t want to bother with upgrading the looks.

Ok, I’ve been in both categories for a while with respect to the family blog here. This update is a step in getting away from that.

The theme I’m running is pretty basic – and that’s the point. There is plenty of room to grow it into something without needing to totally re-structure the theme. The original author built it with people extending it as a goal. So I’ve made a start. Part of it is trying to do things the ‘wordpress’ way instead of going in there and hacking up the internals. Makes upgrades easier and I think it’s a good thing to get my mind thinking in a different framework. The avatar off on the side is from the southpark create-a-character thing, I think Ramona has the right link. I created my character, gave them a background color not found in the image, and then cut out the background in an image editing program. A few touchups, a resize, and an upload later and the avatar was put up there. I want to create a random one based on user avatars… or maybe display the avatar of the current user… or something. I could easily get it working by saying “hey, send me your image and I’ll get it up there”. Really easy. But that’s not the ‘wordpress’ way at all. I’m thinking about how to go about doing it the ‘right’ way. But maybe I should just hack it up for now just for fun.

  3. Oh, yeah, the mono chrome theme colors: the background used to be totally white (just like the text boxes)…. I think that was even worse.

  4. When i posted the other day, i thought i was replying to Chris… for some reason.. maybe because i was tired or not focusing. It was confusing to come back and reread. 🙂

Yhe aviator, i meant to say “you” could create one for me. But i have been playing with south park aviators and have come up with one for me, though i am not entirely happy with it. My goal was to make it look like me. and i got all tangled up when trying for the hair. I will upload it, but i may change it. Actually i would appreciate constructive comments.

  5. LOL

Same thing happened to me, which is just mentally deranged. It felt like I was replying, so when I went to look at comments, I was thrown off for a bit. Where was my comment? Wasn’t my comment first?

Then, duh, I remembered that I started this post. Well, the unspoken ‘what do you guys think of it?’ was so strongly spoken. 🙂
